Shelter at Home Order Issued in Bixby

Bixby Mayor Brian Guthrie has signed a shelter at home order that takes effect Wednesday at 11:59 p.m.

Residents are to stay home through April 16 unless going to work at a job deemed essential under executive orders from Gov. Kevin Stitt or doing things like buying groceries, going to take care of a family member or exercising while following social distancing guidelines.

"This is a temporary situation that will pass. Lives will be disrupted as well as businesses. There will also be good things that come out of this as well. We will take this situation day by day at this time and adapt as we must," Guthrie said in a statement.

All city-owned sports fields, sport courts, park shelters and playgrounds are closed and not to be used, even if they are not locked.

The shelter at home order does not prohibit gatherings but says they must follow state and federal guidelines and strictly adhere to social distancing requirements so people who don't live together are at least 6 feet apart at all times.

City permits for events have been revoked through the end of the order, April 16.

Jenks has been under a similar "safer at home" order since Tuesday.
