Kickstarter Pledges Topped $320 Million In 2012; Site Names Year's Top Projects
Kickstarter, the crowd-funding site that pairs indie-minded entrepreneurs with online investors, funded more than 18,000 projects in 2012, according to its end-of-year analysis. The site says more than 2.2 million people pledged nearly $320 million, with 17 projects raising more than $1 million.
American West Paintings Bringing in Top Dollar
Record prices are being paid for landscape paintings of the American West. Hal Cannon of the Western Folklife Center went to the Couer d'Alene Art Auction in Reno, Nev., and found serious buyers bidding into the hundreds of thousands or more, to own a Frederick Remington or a Charlie Russell or a Frank McCarthy.

Forbes magazine is out with its yearly list of the 400 richest Americans. Their combined net worth increased 13 percent since last year. The top of the list contains the usual suspects: Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, Larry Ellison, the Koch brothers and the children of Wal-Mart founder Sam Walton.
