Oklahoma City, OK – Judge to rule on ultrasound requirement
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) An Oklahoma judge is planning to rule on a lawsuit against an anti-abortion law.
Oklahoma County District Judge Vicki Robertson is to rule Tuesday afternoon on a lawsuit over the law, which requires that women receive an ultrasound before an abortion and listen to their doctor describe the fetus.
Plaintiffs' attorneys say the law is unconstitutionally vague and it is not clear what the doctor should tell the women undergoing the ultrasound.
Defense attorneys say the law requires doctors to describe the dimensions of the fetus as well as cardiac activity and other physical details.
The law was passed by lawmakers who overrode Gov. Brad Henry's veto. Henry said it was unconscionable to require victims of rape and incest to undergo the ultrasound.
