Tryon, OK – About 200 acres burned in central Okla. fire
TRYON, Okla. (AP) Firefighters have contained a large fire that charred about 200 acres of grass between Meridian and Tryon in central Oklahoma.
Lincoln County Emergency Management Director Joey Wakefield said crews were notified about 1 p.m. Wednesday of the blaze near the junction of Oklahoma Highway 105 and U.S. Highway 177.
Wakefield says no injuries were reported and no homes or other structures burned. He says fire crews from Lincoln and Logan counties had contained the blaze and remained on the scene to deal with any smoldering areas.
Oklahoma has been plagued by wildfires this year. A lingering drought has left grass and other vegetation unusually dry and susceptible to burning.
Counties in southern Oklahoma remain under a state burn ban, and county burn bans are in effect in other areas.
