The rally will be in the Edison gym

A rally is set for this evening by two organizations on behalf of the Tulsa Public Schools, It will be held at 6:30 PM at the Edison High School gym on 41st Street between Lewis and Harvard. The organizations are upset over continued flat-to-down budgets for public education in Oklahoma and,  in particular, the impact it is having on the Tulsa Public Schools. Due to a projected budget shortfall in Tulsa Public Schools, the district is forecasting a  $5.6 million funding hole for next school year.

  • 75 teachers will be trimmed from Tulsa Public Schools, not according to merit but rather seniority—even if they leave due to attrition, teachers will not be replaced.
  • Class sizes will increase, with an average of 23 students in elementary, 24-26 in middle and 27-29 in high school
  • There will likely be a total reduction of about 29 elementary classroom teachers
  • The student-teacher ratio will increase
