Person of Interest in Homicide Found Dead

Jose Acevedo

SAPULPA, Okla. (AP) — Authorities say the body of a man found hanging in a tree in Creek County is that of a Tulsa man wanted for questioning in the death of a Tulsa woman.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation says the body was found Tuesday near Sapulpa. OSBI identified the man as Jose Acevedo and said he apparently committed suicide. The body was found about 75 yards from where the body of 26-year-old Leticia Melendez Reyes was found May 8 in a SUV with her two children.

The OSBI says Acevedo and Reyes lived together in Tulsa and that Acevedo was a "person of interest" in Reyes' death.

An autopsy to determine Reyes' cause of death is pending. The two children were not harmed and have been turned over to family members.
