Oklahoma! On Fire!

Jodi Johnson

Here is the very latest on the wild fires in Oklahoma:

We are under a Red Flag Fire WARNING. That means wildfires are wide spread and are causing damage to homes and structures. The WARNING includes the Tulsa County and all of the Public Radio Tulsa listening area. Communities are being evacuated because of the fires.

A thick layer of smoke hangs over Tulsa. At times ash has been falling from the sky in Tulsa, resembling snow flurries.

Emergency management officials have ordered evacuations of homes in several areas as wildfires burn across the state.

The Oklahoma Department of Emergency Services says no injuries have been reported.

The largest fire was burning an estimated 78 square miles in Creek County and the western sections of the town of Mannford was under and evacuation order. Creek County Commissioner Newt Stephens told reporters Saturday afternoon that numerous structures had been burned.

Evacuations were also ordered in the Drumright area; near Quinton in Pittsburg County; and in the Glencoe area of Payne County;

ODEM also reports a fire near the Tom Steel Reservoir has affected water service to Altus and other communities in that area.
