Highway Dedicated to Vet's Memory

KWGS News

A section of Highway 169, between Owasso and Collinsville, is renamed in honor of a fallen Oklahoma National Guard member.

It was almost a year ago that Specialist Christopher Horton was killed in Afghanistan. Today, the roadway between 106th Street North and 116th Street North was named in his honor.

His wife, Jane, saw the sign on her way to the ceremony.

Jane Horton: “I just saw it and I pulled over and I just cried. It means so much to me that the city of Owasso and the State of Oklahoma have done this for Chris.”

Also, speaking at the ceremony was State Veterans Affairs Secretary Rita Aragon.

Rita Aragon:  "I will tell you that what you are doing today, is what we should be doing for all our heroes.”

Also at the ceremony was State Senator Rick Brinkley, who presented a proclamation. State Representative David Derby also spoke to the gathering, as did Tulsa County Commissioner John Smaligo.

Jane Horton was a delegate to the just concluded Republican National Convention. While in Tampa, she met for about ten minutes with Mitt Romney to discuss veterans’ issues.

This Sunday will mark one-year since Specialist Horton was killed.
