Tulsa TV Memories.com

A longtime fixture of Tulsa Television has passed. Bob Hower, who delivered Tulsa’s very first TV newscast on KOTV, died Saturday morning in Tulsa. He was 87-years old.

He is best remembered for his years at KTUL. He started out at KTUL Radio (now KTBZ) before going to channel 6. He left the Tulsa market for several years, including a stint in the military, to return to KTUL-TV.  At Channel 8, he served as the lead news anchor with Don Woods as the weatherman and Chris Lincoln as the sports anchor. Hower had several female co-anchors over the years, Beth Rengel is the best remembered.

Hower started the “Waiting Child” series on Channel 8 which won national acclaim. It spotlighted a child in need of adoption. The series continues on air at Channel 8.

Services for Hower are pending.
