YUKON, Okla. (AP) — With a 1-poitn lead, 2.9 seconds to play and possession of the basketball all Hugo had to do was run out the clock to defeat Millwood and advance in the Oklahoma Class 3A state basketball championships.

What followed stunned both teams and the crowd as Hugo guard Trey Johnson became confused and laid the ball into the wrong basket just before the buzzer to give Millwood a 38-37 win Thursday night in Yukon.

Millwood assistant coach David Samilton told The Oklahoman that he couldn't believe what was happening before his eyes.

Hugo coach Darnell Shanklin told the newspaper that Johnson became confused during the play and was heartbroken afterward.

Hugo finishes the season at 21-7 while Millwood improved to 16-9 and advances to the state semifinals.
