Suspect Arrested in Murder of NSU Professor

OSBI

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. (AP) — Police in Oklahoma have captured a fugitive sought in the slaying of a Northeastern State University professor.

Authorities say 33-year-old Joshua Schneider was arrested in a wooded area Saturday afternoon shortly after his girlfriend surrendered to police.

Police have been seeking Schneider for questioning in the May slaying of Northeastern State University Professor Tiffany Maher, whose body was found in her Tahlequah home.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation says Tulsa police used search dogs and a helicopter to find Schneider.

The agency says Schneider and his girlfriend, Heather Black, are to be booked into the Tulsa jail.

Authorities said last week that Schneider led police on a chase and got away after he abandoned his vehicle with his 2-year-old daughter inside.
