Tulsa is losing an iconic business. Locally owned Steve's Sundry, Books & Magazines has announced it will close at 6:00 p.m. December 31, 2013.   The store will operate as usual through Christmas Eve. Owner Joanie Stephenson made the announcement.

JOANIE STEPHENSON: "Our lease is coming up for renewal early 2014, and with the current flux of the book industry, I have decided it is now time to begin the next chapter in my life."

Citing economic climate, daily changes in the publishing arena, and internet buying culture, Stephenson said the bottom line on the financials made the decision for her.

JOANIE STEPHENSON: "This was not an easy decision. Steve's Sundry has been a part of the Tulsa fabric since 1947; we are an institution. Multi-generations of customers have grown up coming to Steve's to sit at the soda fountain. Hopefully, someone in Tulsa will be interested in purchasing the soda fountain so its' legacy will live on."

Steve's will reopen on Saturday, December 28 at 10:00 a.m.  All inventory including books, calendars, and sundry items will be sold at 40% discount.  The soda fountain and  fixtures will be sold as priced.  Customers will benefit from very significant savings on the entire stock.
