The Tulsa Fire Fighters Union announced its support for Kathy Taylor in next month's Tulsa mayoral election. The International Association of Fire Fighters launched a "Fire Fighters for Kathy Taylor" bus tour. The union members plan to drive the recreational vehicle around the city to show their support for Taylor.
Kathy Taylor served as Tulsa's Mayor from 2006 through 2009. She did not seek re-election in 2009.
IAFF District 11 Vice President Sandy McGhee says the fire fighters stand with Taylor because she makes public safety a top priority. He says Taylor will make sure Tulsa has the right number of fire fighters and the right equipment to get the job done for Tulsans.
McGhee was critical of Mayor Bartlett for not accepting federal grants to bolster the fire department. The Mayor has said in the past that he doesn't like such grants because when the dollars expire, the city is on the hook for the funding.
