OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Gov. Mary Fallin is urging Oklahomans to take health precautions and get vaccinated as the flu season continues.
The Oklahoma Department of Health says 33 Oklahomans have died from the flu since late September. The agency also reports that 975 have been hospitalized since the flu season began.
Health Commissioner Terry Cline says flu can be a very serious disease for anyone, including healthy young adults.
Health officials recommend that everyone over the age of 6 months get the vaccine to protect themselves and those around them from influenza. While it can take up to two weeks for those who receive the vaccination to be fully protected, officials say it's not too late to get that protection. They say flu season in Oklahoma can continue into early spring.
