QUAPAW, Okla. (AP) — Official: 1 dead, 6 injured after tornado hits Quapaw, Oklahoma. The tornado touched down near the town's fire station. It was destroyed. Other parts of the town were also damaged. Quapaw is in Ottawa County along Route 66. It is the first town you come to after exiting Kansas into Oklahoma.
The tornado jumped through abandon mines files and next the town of Baxter Springs, Kansas. It continued to track to the northeast, hitting next Galena, Kansas. It then crossed the border into Missouri near the town of Carl Junction, which is northwest of Joplin.
