OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma City's immigration courtroom is set to close for good on Friday.
The Oklahoman reports the federal Executive Office for Immigration Review has announced it will no longer hear cases at the location.
The Oklahoma location has operated as a sub-office of the Dallas Immigration Court. The Dallas location with handle pending proceedings. Immigrants seeking legal status will get new hearing dates.
A spokeswoman for the federal office says an Immigration and Customs Enforcement employee who staffed the office will no longer be able to do so. It's unclear why the decision was made.
Oklahoma will become one of 23 states without an immigration court outside of prisons or jails. There is one remaining sub-office in Oklahoma at the David L. Moss Criminal Justice Center in Tulsa.
