Fallin Teams Up with Durant for Fit-Kid Event

Facebook

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin is teaming up with NBA star Kevin Durant as part of an initiative to battle childhood obesity

The Republican governor and Durant danced Friday before hundreds of Oklahoma students, parents and teachers on the north steps of the state Capitol to launch the governor's Get Fit Challenge.

A 2013 study by the Centers for Disease Control shows Oklahoma is one of about ten states in which about 12 percent of children are obese. That's a decline from Oklahoma's ranking of 17 percent in 2011.

Oklahoma Health Commissioner Dr. Terry Cline participated in the event which urged children to be more active, along with the Oklahoma City Thunder mascot Rumble the Bison.
