Aeronautics Commission Awards Education Grants

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission has awarded almost $120,000 in grants to nine aerospace and aviation education programs.

The funds will be used to expose more school-aged children in the Oklahoma City area to science, technology, engineering and math careers, particularly those in the aerospace and aviation fields.

The largest education grant, totaling $53,000, went to the University of Oklahoma's Sooner Flight Academy Education Programs. The funds will help pay for the Aviation Science in the Classroom Program throughout the 2014-2015 school year as well as next summer's Sooner Flight Academy Program.

University officials say that about 600 students in grades K-12 will participate in the programs and that the grant will go toward student internships, scholarships for the flight camp and curriculum for the Aviation Science in the Classroom Program.
