The Tulsa County District Attorney has requested the OSBI handle an investigation into allegations of misdeeds in the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office. This all started with the accidental, fatal shooting of Eric Harris by Reserve Deputy Robert Bates. Bates said he mistook his pistol for a taser. Since that time, there have been questions raised about training and favoritism in the Sheriff's office. Two top officials have stepped down. Another is on leave.
The OSBI is not discussing the case, but did confirm the investigation was requested and being considered. Below is a message from the OSBI:
"The Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office has requested the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation to investigate recent allegations of misconduct within the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office. The OSBI has not opened a case at this time. OSBI is conferring with other investigative and prosecutorial entities with jurisdiction in this case to determine the best and most efficient course of action. If OSBI opens a case on this matter, the public will be notified."
