Tulsa’s Young Professionals host their fifth edition of Street CReD tomorrow at 61st Street and Peoria Avenue.
TYPros' motto is, “When no area of Tulsa is neglected, the entire city benefits.” 2015 Chair Evan Tipton said Street CReD is more than just a fun day out.
"We can see from five years ago, when we did our first Street CReD in the Pearl District, what's happened since then," Tipton said. "I think it was just one of many catalysts."
Tipton said 61st and Peoria was chosen this year partly because of the strides made by the community in reducing crime. The event could help reduce the stigma over the area.
"I think a lot of people, just by the sound of '61st and Peoria' don't feel safe because of the recent events in the last few years, but in being there recently after dark and riding my bike through the area, I really have found a more comfortable understanding for the area," Tipton said. "It's really not as bad as the reputation that it's received."
Street CReD will feature live music and free food at Johnson Park from 11 a.m. to four p.m.
Besides the Pearl District, previous Street CReD events have been held in the North Star neighborhood at 36th Street North and Peoria, the Red Fork area in west Tulsa, and south downtown.
