OSBI will Review TCSO

KWGS News File Photo

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has opened a review of the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office. The announcement was made Monday, but the investigation apparently started on Friday.

The OSBI released the following statement on social media:

"Last month, the Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office requested OSBI investigative assistance into allegations of misconduct within the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Department. Days later, Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler recused his office as prosecuting authority. The Oklahoma Attorney General then appointed Okmulgee County District Attorney O.R. Barris as prosecutor in this case. Barris formally requested OSBI investigative assistance into the allegations. Friday (5/29/2015), OSBI opened an investigation into the allegations of misconduct within the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office. When the investigation is completed, the Bureau will provide D.A. Barris a thorough, written report. D.A. Barris will determine if any violations of state laws occurred within the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office."

This all follows the fatal April shooting of a suspect during a sting operation by a reserve deputy.  Manslaughter charges have been filed against the deputy. Three other top sheriff's department officials have either resigned or were fired.

There is an effort underway seeking a Grand Jury Investigation of the department.
