The Great Raft Race Is Back

Lisa Nelson

For the first time since Labor Day, 1992 Tulsans floated down the Arkansas River in the Great Raft Race.

The race was a Labor Day staple in Tulsa from the 1970s through the early 1990s, when its lead sponsor abandoned the event over liability concerns.

This year's event was sponsored by Bud Light and The Public Service Company of Oklahoma. All types of rafts floated down the Arkansas River from the River City Park at Sand Springs to the Festival Park in West Tulsa.

There were no major incidents and organizers seem pleased.
