Looking for international vacation destinations? Search no more. AAA recently came out with their list of the top 10 locations for international travel this year. The list is as follows:
1. London, England
2. Rome, Italy
3. Cancun, Mexico
4. Paris, France
5. Dublin, Ireland
6. Amsterdam, Netherlands
7. Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
8. Montego Bay, Jamaica
9. Vancouver, British Columbia
10. Prague, Czech Republic
Before traveling across the border, AAA has a few recommendations.
First, allow plenty of time to secure your passport, and familiarize yourself with the country's passport policies. A traveler's passport is required to be valid for at least six months in some countries.
Second, acquire an International Driving Permit (IDP) before attempting to drive internationally. If not planning on driving, an IDP is recommended for use as alternative identification.
Third, enroll your travel plans with the STEP (Smart Traveler Enrollment Program). This makes it easier for the local embassy or consulate to get in touch with U.S. Travelers in case of emergencies.
Fourth, notify the fraud department of your bank and credit card companies before traveling internationally to let them know where the card will be used. This will help to avoid service interruptions. Using a chip-embedded credit card with EMV technology is also recommended.
Fifth, subscribe to an international data plan with your cell phone carrier. Overseas rates for cell phones can be high. For travelers hoping to post photos on social media or stay in touch with loved ones, it is worth the cost. While on social media, avoid disclosing the dates of your trip to keep your home from being victim to burglary.
Lastly, exchange your money beforehand with your travel agent or bank to avoid high exchange rates and service fees at airport or train kiosks.
