LAWTON, Okla. (AP) — The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has released the name of a man who was shot and killed by a Lawton police officer after the man reportedly waved a gun at motorists.
OSBI spokeswoman Jessica Brown told The Lawton Constitution that the man was 40-year-old Jason Day of Lawton.
Lawton Police Chief James Smith has said officers responding to multiple calls of a man pointing a weapon at motorists Monday afternoon had a "brief encounter" with Day before he was shot. Day later died at a hospital.
The officer — whose name has not been released — is on paid leave.
Brown says the OSBI is still investigating the shooting and will present a report to the district attorney.
