OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A state audit of the Association of County Commissioners of Oklahoma says it has no polices governing credit card purchases and placed $273,000 in travel, gifts, food and party-related expenses on its credit cards in a two-year period.
The findings are part of an investigative audit released Monday by Auditor and Inspector Gary Jones' office. It was requested by Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater, who said in a letter to Jones he suspected public money had been mishandled by the group's fund managers.
The audit says 88 percent of the group's funding is from public sources.
The organization fired its executive director less than two weeks after Prater requested the audit last year. An attorney for the group, Robert McCampbell, did not immediately return a telephone call seeking comment.
