TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Vic Regalado was the top vote-getter in a Republican primary to become Tulsa's next sheriff and will move to the April 5 special election against Democrat Rex Berry.
The job became open when Sheriff Stanley Glanz resigned last November. Researchers said last week that Glanz presided over an agency that had been in decline and said the department suffered from a lack of leadership and supervision.
Grand jurors last September indicted Glanz, accusing him of failing to release an internal report about his agency, among other accusations.
The panel began looking at the agency after Eric Harris was killed during an investigation last April. A reserve deputy who was a friend to the sheriff said he mistakenly pulled a handgun rather than his stun gun.
