TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Officials say a Tulsa County Jail inmate who suffered a broken neck and other injuries harmed himself, damaged his holding cell and refused offers for medical care before personnel took him to the hospital.

The Tulsa World reports that the 38-year-old was admitted to the hospital the night of May 2 after he "dove off" the top bunk of a bed onto the floor in an isolation cell and briefly lost consciousness.

Sheriff Vic Regalado disclosed the matter to the Tulsa County Criminal Justice Authority on Wednesday.

Regalado says that throughout the day, the inmate had been hitting his head and leaping from his bunk to other furniture. Medical records show his injuries included neck, back, pelvis and rib fractures.

Sgt. Virgil Collett says there wasn't any wrongdoing by jail personnel in the incident.
