The Oklahoma Policy Institute’s summer conference gets a crash course on the health care problems in the state. Morton Health Care CEO and former Tulsa Mayor Susan Savage was one the speakers.
She says most of their patients are not--- or are at least under--- insured. She says Morton serves 20,000 patients a year and encounters up to 60,000.
The federal qualified health center provides cradle-to-grave health care to those who otherwise would be without such care.
Other panelist at the conference, including Nico Gomez, the head of Oklahoma's Health Care Authority, discussed delivery methods for health care and the rural vs urban dynamic that is forcing some rural hospitals to close. Oklahoma is one of the states that did not accept Medicaid expansion under the Federal Health Care Act.
