Hartshorne city attorney and former Oklahoma senator Richard Lerblance has resigned.
The McAlester News-Capital reports that Lerblance told the City Council in his resignation letter that he believed city leadership broke an open meeting law during a June 13 council meeting.
Lerblance said that a vote that did not actually take place was added to the meeting minutes and that Mayor Carolyn Trueblood suspended him as city attorney after he brought the issue to her attention.
Trueblood says the city has always followed the law.
According to Trueblood, the letters that Lerblance wrote to city officials will be discussed during a closed executive session at a regular City Council meeting on Aug. 8.
