Jury selection begins Monday Morning at 10 in the trial of Tulsa Police Officer Betty Jo Shelby. Shelby is charged with 1st Degree Manslaughter in the death last September of unarmed Terrance Crutcher. Shelby is White. Crutcher was Black.
Officer Shelby came upon Crutcher's stalled car in the middle of 36th Street North. She has claimed Crutcher was acting erratically and not following her commands. Video shows him walking away from the officer, toward his car, with his hands-up. Shelby says she shot him when he reached through a car window. She thought he was going to grab a gun. No gun was found.
A toxicology report shows Crutcher did have drugs in his system at the time.
