'Tools For Schools' Drive Benefitting TPS Teachers Now Underway

The City of Tulsa’s second summer school supply drive for Tulsa Public Schools teachers is underway.

Tools For Schools runs through Aug. 3, and supplies can be dropped off at any of Tulsa’s 30 fire stations. Assistant Fire Chief Mike Bailey said they’re proud to play a part.

"We get to work hand-in-hand with the schools. So, we get to see, you know, sometimes how they are struggling with just common things, like the pencils and paper and things like that," Bailey said.

City Councilor Karen Gilbert asks people to show their support for TPS teachers, even if that’s just picking up a couple extra items when they’re buying supplies for their own kids.

"We’re still having a hard time funding education where it should be. So, this is just our way of helping out teachers in the classrooms and making sure that they’re successful," Gilbert said.

Supplies most in demand include copy paper, dry erase markers, pencils, crayons, colored pencils, disinfectant wipes, tissues and single-subject spiral notebooks with wide ruled pages.

All supplies collected during the drive will go to the Tulsa Public Schools Foundation for teachers to pick up what they need after Aug. 3.
