A sparse crowd rallied in front of the state capitol over the weekend in an effort to renew the energy they felt during the teacher walkout, and to remind lawmakers they’re still fighting for more school funding.
The theme of the rally was “Remember in November”.
Kristen Compton, a counselor in Oklahoma City Public Schools, says even though educators didn’t achieve all their goals during the nine-day teacher walkout — they haven’t given up. During a speech at the rally she encouraged attendees to get to the polls on November 6th.
COMPTON: Now is the time to let our voices be heard by voting in candidates who will fight for public teachers, and fight for public schools. THAT is how we remember in November.
Compton says many schools are still working on skeleton crews. She hopes lawmakers give schools additional funding this year so districts can hire back teachers and reduce class sizes
