It was a long and cold night in east Tulsa. Thousands were left without heat after a 16” natural gas line ruptured near 21st and South Memorial. Oklahoma Natural Gas crews rushed to the scene, but had to wait until the gas dissipated before starting repairs.
The explosion closed the intersection during yesterday’s afternoon rush. The Police Department says it has since partially reopened.
TULSA POLICE: The area of E. 21st Street and S. Memorial Drive is now reopened for east and west bound lanes. Southbound traffic is still barricaded and will remain so for several days while repairs begin. Thank you for your patience.
The Public Service Company of Oklahoma shut off power to the area, fearing the smallest spark could ignite the escaping gas. The power was restored around eight last night and residents were then allowed to return home.
