Freezing Rain Envelopes Tulsa

Light rain and freezing rain mixed with sleet have begun to move into Northeast Oklahoma this morning. This precipitation is expected to continue to push eastward through Northeast Oklahoma and into Northwest Arkansas mid to late morning. Temperatures are only forecast to warm to around 30 degrees to mid 30s across much of Northeast Oklahoma and far Northwest Arkansas, which will allow for areas of freezing rain and sleet to remain possible through the day. Precipitation looks to taper off from west to east this afternoon and evening. A winter weather advisory is in effect through 6 PM for much of Northeast Oklahoma and also far Northwest Arkansas. Forecast ice accumulations of a light glaze up toward 2 tenths of an inch will be possible mainly on elevated surfaces, with the higher amounts near the Kansas and Missouri borders. Forecast sleet accumulations of up to a few tenths of an inch will also be possible mainly near the Kansas border. These accumulations could impact the morning commute with slick roadways, especially bridges and overpasses. Another low pressure system is forecast to develop to the southwest and move into the Plains during the early to middle part of next week. Precipitation chances become possible Tuesday into Wednesday across Eastern Oklahoma and Northwest Arkansas. There remains a potential for some wintry precipitation with this system.
