Fund Set up to Help Tulsa-Area Residents Hit by Hardship During Pandemic

Tulsa Community Foundation and Tulsa Area United Way are raising money for a COVID-19 Response Fund.

Tulsa Area United Way President and CEO Alison Anthony said as the economy suffers during the pandemic, people are losing their jobs.

"They may have additional food costs. They may have additional child care needs. They may not be able to do the day-to-day things that they normally do because of lost wages," Anthony said.

The fund has raised $3 million so far, with major donors like the George Kaiser Family Foundation, Hardesty Family Foundation, Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation, Anne and Henry Zarrow Foundation, QuikTrip, and Bank of Oklahoma.

The money will go to charities best positioned to help those in need.

"But right now, we're asking the community to donate to the fund so that we not only can contribute to those organizations, but also sustain because we know that the needs are going to be long and go on for awhile," Anthony said.

Donations to the fund can be made online or by mailing a check with "Tulsa Area COVID-19 Response Fund" on the memo line to Tulsa Community Foundation at 7030 S Yale Ave., Suite 600, Tulsa, Oklahoma, 74136.
