Next Time on All This Jazz: Songs and Moods (and Standards) of Autumn
Please tune in for the next broadcast of All This Jazz, beginning at 10pm on Saturday the 27th --- right here on Public Radio 89.5 (KWGS-FM) and online via live stream at PublicRadioTulsa.org.
In the first half of our program, we'll remember the late trumpet player, composer, and bandleader Kenny Wheeler, who died recently at 84, and who was for decades one of the most interesting and accomplished musicians on the British jazz scene. We'll also hear wonderful music from the SFJAZZ Collective (featuring the always-fine Renee Rosnes at the piano) and the Michigan-based clarinet player Dave Bennett (whose latest CD has a decidedly Goodmanesque title: "Don't Be That Way").
And in the latter half of All This Jazz, our second-hour theme will be "Autumn" -- that glorious "season of mists and mellow fruitfulness," as per the poet John Keats, which arrived on Monday the 22nd...and which will hopefully stay with us, in ways ever so mellow, for as long as possible. Thus we'll hear excellent jazz treatments of standards like "Autumn Leaves" and "Autumn in New York" and "Early Autumn."
And much more! Join us!
(The fine print: All This Jazz airs every Saturday night on Public Radio 89.5, from 10pm until midnight. We always thereafter offer a 7pm re-airing of the program on Sunday evening, on Jazz 89.5-2, which is our station's all-jazz HD Radio channel. Each week, we spin modern jazz, both recent and classic, across a range of styles. And the second half of our program, beginning at 11pm, invariably carries a theme. Also, for those among you so inclined: All This Jazz now has a Facebook page. Thanks very much for listening.)
