COVID Update: 369 New Cases Statewide, 2 More Dead in Tulsa County

The Oklahoma State Department of Health reported on Monday 369 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the state's total to 48,711.

Tulsa County had 68 of those cases, and its total now stands at 11,443. That's second to Oklahoma County's 11,715 cases.

The state's seven-day average of new cases, which shows the trend in infections, dropped from 682 to 678. The rolling average hit its lowest level in a month on Friday before rising slightly over the weekend.

The seven-day average hit a peak of 1,093 on Aug. 1. When Oklahoma moved to phase three of Gov. Kevin Stitt's reopening plan on June 1, the average was 69 cases.

Tulsa County's seven-day average of new cases dropped from 130 to 126, its lowest level since July 5. Tulsa County's rolling average has fallen for seven days in a row.

The state health department reported four deaths on Monday, with none identified in the past 24 hours. Two deaths were in Tulsa County, a man and a woman between 50 and 64 years old. Tulsa County now has 116 deaths from COVID-19, second-most in the state.

Men 65 or older in Cleveland and Oklahoma counties were also reported dead. COVID-19 has now officially killed 665 Oklahomans. Oklahoma County leads the state with 132 deaths.

As of Friday evening, 506 Oklahomans were hospitalized for COVID-19, 61 fewer than reported Thursday. Of those hospitalized Friday, 426 had positive coronavirus tests. Overall, 236 Oklahomans hospitalized for COVID-19 were in intensive care units, four fewer than the day before.

Tulsa County reported 180 residents hospitalized as of Friday, a new high after hospitalizations Wednesday and Thursday were adjusted from 181 to 177 and from 181 to 178. Local hospitalization numbers change frequently based on new data. Tulsa County hospitalizations have been trending up overall since Aug. 1.

Over the course of the pandemic, 4,021 Oklahomans have been hospitalized for COVID-19.

The state reported 27% of its adult ICU beds were available as of Sunday.

The state health department reported an additional 307 patients as recovered on Monday, bringing the total to 40,531. Patients are considered to have recovered if they did not die, are not currently hospitalized and it has been at least 14 days since their symptoms began. Symptoms have been reported to linger for several weeks for some individuals.

The state has 7,515 active cases of COVID-19, 58 more than the day before.

Tulsa County reported a total of 9,935 patients recovered as of Monday, an increase of 63 from the day before. The county has 1,392 active cases, three more than the day before.

The state's overall positive test rate at the end of last week was 7.2%. Out of 11,462 tests reported on Friday, 10.2% were positive. Each positive test does not necessarily represent a unique individual.

The World Health Organization's benchmark indicating adequate testing is a 5% positive test rate.
