The estate of a 25-year-old woman who died in prison is dropping its lawsuit against the Oklahoma Department of Corrections.
Amber Hilberling was serving a 25-year prison sentence for pushing her husband to his death from the 25th floor of their high-rise apartment complex in Tulsa. Hilberling had argued she was acting in self-defense, but she was convicted of second-degree murder.
Hilberling died in 2016 at the Mabel Bassett Correctional Center in McLoud, and her death was ruled a suicide. Her estate sued the corrections department, alleging inadequate supervision, medical care and segregation procedures. The lawsuit also said Hilberling was manipulated, coerced and sexually exploited by an inmate throughout her time at Mabel Bassett.
