On the Next ATJ…as NPR Turns 50…We’ll Listen Back to Notable Jazz Recordings from 1971

Here’s hoping you can join us for the next All This Jazz broadcast, airing Saturday the 8th on Public Radio 89.5 KWGS-FM. We’ll be on the air (and streaming online at kwgs.org) from 9pm till midnight -- and we’ll offer a top-notch playlist of modern jazz, both recent and classic, across a range of styles. Also, in the 3rd and thematic hour of our program, running from 11pm to 12am, we’ll salute the 50th birthday of NPR -- which initially took to the airwaves in early May of 1971 -- by listening to several outstanding jazz recordings made in that very year. Tune in for the likes of Keith Jarrett, Freddie Hubbard, Elvin Jones, and The Mahavishnu Orchestra -- all presenting music of a decidedly ’71 vintage...! And elsewhere in our show, listen for choice tracks by Clifford Jordan, Curtis Fuller, Shirley Horn, Vijay Iyer, Bobby Sanabria, and many more. Cheers. (Please note that you can also hear the Sunday-night rebroadcast of ATJ...each and every Sunday night...from 7 to 10pm on Jazz 89.5-2, which is the all-jazz HD Radio station here at KWGS.)

Scott Gregory started working at Public Radio Tulsa in 2006; he started listening to public radio circa 1980, when he and NPR both marked their tenth birthdays (although only one of them commemorated the occasion with a party at Skate World). Scott became this radio station's Operations Director in the summer of 2023; he also hosts and programs All This Jazz, which airs every Saturday night on Public Radio 89.5-1 from 9pm till midnight.
