Ten Candidates Vying to Lead Muscogee (Creek) Nation

The Muscogee Creek Nation has certified 37 candidates for office in elections this fall, including 10 for principal chief.

Current Principal Chief James Floyd announced last month he will not run for a second term.

The candidates running for principal chief are former Tulsa District representative Sam Alexander, former Tulsa District representative Steve Bruner, Thlopthlocco Tribal Town administrator Tim Good Voice, attorney Brenda Golden, National Council Second Speaker David Hill, Otoe-Missouria Tribe planning director Jackie Jackson, College of the Muscogee Nation Dean of Academic Affairs Monte Randall, construction business owner Joseph Rogers Jr, former Principal Chief George Tiger and National Council Speaker Lucien Tiger III.

The second chief office is also up for grabs, as are eight of 16 National Council seats.

The primary election is September 21st. In races where no one candidate gets a majority of the votes, the top two move on to the Nov. 2 general election.
