Syrian Government Agrees To Withdraw Forces
United Nations Peace Envoy Kofi Annan says April 10 is the date the Syrian government has agreed to end its assault and pull troops from major cities. Audie Cornish talks with Tamara Cofman Wittes about this development in Syria. Wittes left the State Department in January, where she was the deputy special coordinator for Middle East transitions, and deputy assistant secretary of state for Near Eastern affairs. She now directs the Saban Center for Middle East Policy at the Brookings Institution.

Boats Ashore, Tsunami Scars Japanese Fishing Town
Japan's Miyage prefecture was one of the hardest hit by last year's earthquake and tsunami. There, the coastal community of Yuriage remains practically deserted. What was once a beautiful harbor filled with boats and a bustling community is now a desolate and deserted place, Doualy Xaykaothao reports.

Pentagon Defends U.S. Policy Toward Syria
Key Senators pressed the head of the Pentagon on why the U.S. is not being more aggressive in trying to help rebels in Syria. But Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta and Joint Chiefs Chairman Martin Dempsey both insisted that Syrian air defenses make the prospect of airstrikes — like those used in Libya — very difficult. They also said the opposition in Syria is too fractured to risk sending in arms, which could end up in the hands of extremists.

Japanese Village Marks Disasters' Anniversary
The people of Japan have been remembering the dreadful events of March 11, 2012, when at 2:46 p.m., a massive earthquake struck. Soon afterward a tsunami crashed into the northeast coast. The village of Minamisanriku, once a beautiful fishing community and tourist destination, was one of the towns worst affected. NPR's Anthony Kuhn reports.

Mitt Romney scored a commanding victory in Sunday's Republican primary in the U.S. commonwealth of Puerto Rico. Romney's rival, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, spent time campaigning in Puerto Rico, as did Romney. But in the end, no one came close to the former Massachusetts governor.
