Tulsa, Oklahoma – On this installment of our show, we chat with two members of the Tulsa's Odeum Theatre Company, which came on the scene as recently as Spring 2009. Already, however, Odeum has made a name for itself by presenting intense and challenging works of quality, such as David Mamet's "Speed the Plow" and Neil LaBute's "The Shape of Things." Now comes "Neighborhood 3: Requisition of Doom," Odeum's take on a recent play by a Los Angeles-based playwright. (It opens tonight, Thursday the 25th, at the Norman Theater in the Tulsa PAC, and runs through Sunday the 28th. For more information, including ticket details, visit odeumtheatrecompany.com.) Our guests today are actor Whit Hanna and director David Lawrence, who tell us all about "Neighborhood 3." The play concerns a suburban subdivision of cookie-cutter houses in contemporary America, wherein all the local parents find their teenagers addicted to the same online horror video game. As both Hanna and Lawrence engagingly note on our program, this play is about blurring the lines between the real and the virtual. And about fear. And about turning that fear into dark comedy. And about teens. And about parents. And so on.
