Performance Oklahoma: OKC Philharmonic "Classics 2"

On Saturday, October 6th the Oklahoma City Philharmonic offered its second concert of the Classics series this season under the baton of new music director Alexander Mickelthwate. The program titled "Wild Individualism" featured two works representing two differing musical points of view and written in the same moment, in the final years of World War I; the Violin Concerto No. 1 in D Major, Op 19 of Sergei Prokofiev, and the iconic suite The Planets, Op 32 by Gustav Holst.

Featured in the performance of Prokofiev's first violin concerto is guest violinist Simon Porter, recognized as an emerging young artist, receiving the coveted Avery Fisher Career Grant in 2015 and making her Carnegie Hall Debut in the following season, and appearing regularly with orchestras and in music festivals across the US, Canada, South America, Hong Kong and the United Kingdom.

This program airs Saturday, November 3rd, 8pm, on Classical 88.7, HD-1.
