House Fire Claims Six

By Associated Press

Weleetka, OK – 6 dead in house fire in east-central Oklahoma

WELEETKA, Okla. (AP) Authorities say at least six people were killed in a house fire in the town of Weleetka.

Medical Examiner's office spokeswoman Cherokee Ballard said Monday two adults and four young children were killed in the early morning blaze.

Assistant State Fire Marshal JoAnne Sellars says a 9- or 10-year-old boy escaped from the burning home through a front door and ran to a neighbor's home. Sellars says the boy ran next door to the neighbors, where they called 911.

Sellars says the fire broke out inside the 1,300-square-foot home about 5:13 a.m. and heavily damaged the interior.

Three state fire investigators were still at the scene late Monday morning.

Weleetka is about 70 miles south of Tulsa in east-central Oklahoma.
