Storm Slaps South Tulsa

KWGS News Photo
PSO crews work to restore power near 83rd and South Lewis.

A severe thunderstorm collapsed over south Tulsa Friday evening.  Strong winds of a microburst caused damage near 81st and South Lewis. The Sonic Drive-In lost its sign because of the winds and trees were downed on the Oral Roberts University Campus and across the street at the City Plex Towers, the site of the old City of Faith Hospital.

The strong winds also took down power lines in the area. PSO brought in power crews from other states to help get the power back on to customers. The Tulsa Police Department sealed off the area near the campus and the 81st and Lewis Wal-Mart Store.

There have been no reports of injuries from EMSA. The National Weather Service had the area under a severe thunderstorm warning when the storm hit.
