The National Transportation Safety Board has released its preliminary report on a plane crash in Collinsville. The plane crashed on the evening of April 7, about 6PM. It killed two men in route from Tulsa to Manhattan, Kansas.
The report says the flight appeared to be routine. There was no distress call from the pilot prior to the crash. The pilot had been in contact with the Tulsa Airport tower and was given permission to climb to 6,000 feet. The plane was in a shallow climb. At 4,100 feet the plane suddenly banked right and started its rapid descent.
The report says the plane left a four foot deep impact crater in the ground before burst into flames. Those flames consumed what was left of the fuselage.
