Oklahoma SkyLab Astronaut Dies

An Oklahoma astronaut from Sand Springs dies at age 84.

Bill Pogue spent 84 days circling the earth in SkyLab. Born in Okemah in 1930, he grew up in Sand Springs - graduating from high school there in 1947.

He was combat pilot during the Korean War, and he joined NASA in 1966. The airport at Sand Springs is named in his honor.
