WOODWARD, Okla. (AP) — Officials say two ranchers in Woodward County remain in critical condition for burns they suffered after a large wildfire burned part of the county last week.
The fire began May 6 near Woodward and quickly spread, burning more than 21 square miles. Woodward County Emergency Management Director Matt Lehenbauer says two ranchers who were trying to herd cattle out of the fire were seriously burned in the blaze.
The Oklahoman reports the ranchers were taken to Integris Baptist Medical Center's burn unit in Oklahoma City with second- and third-degree burns. A hospital spokeswoman says both remain in critical condition.
A report released Wednesday by the Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry found that the Woodward fire was accidental in nature and may have been sparked by exhaust fumes.
