Tulsa Transit will make a few route changes next month, including restoring service every 30 minutes along Peoria Avenue.
The changes are meant to get routes within the goal of service at least every 45 minutes. That means adding a morning bus to 112, an afternoon bus to 210 and a midday bus to 117.
Debbie Ruggles with Tulsa Transit told the Transportation Advisory Board an additional bus on route 105 will mean service every 30 minutes all day along Peoria.
"About 20 percent of our riders come from that one route, so it's extremely important for us to keep that route on time," Ruggles said.
Route 117 runs from downtown to Tulsa Hills. Despite midday service running every hour and a half, it’s had the strongest ridership growth.
Three million people rode Tulsa buses in fiscal year 2014, the first time that’s happened in 12 years. Ruggles said they did it with 20 percent fewer service hours in 2014 than in 2002, "which means on a passenger-per-hour or efficiency level, we're incredibly more efficient in 2014 with our 3 million riders."
Ruggles credits bus trackers with making routes more efficient.
