TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma health officials say a patient in Tulsa who fell ill after visiting west Africa recently has tested negative for Ebola.
The Tulsa Health Department and state Health Department said in statements Saturday night that blood test results from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show that the person is not infected.
The person had previously tested positive for malaria and had been placed in isolation at a Tulsa hospital as a precaution because of a recent visit to Sierra Leone, Guinea or Liberia. Officials had said the person was at low risk for Ebola because he or she did not care for an Ebola patient while in Africa.
The State Department of Health says the CDC blood test was done only as a precaution.
